Facilitate Your Qurbani with SANZAF: Honour the Sunnah, Uplift Communities
Qurbani, the sacred act of sacrifice, is a profound symbol of submission, compassion, and unity in Islam. It commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah (SWT). Today, Muslims around the world honour this legacy by performing Qurbani during the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah.
At SANZAF, we are honoured to facilitate this spiritual duty on behalf of the public—ensuring that every Qurbani carried out through us adheres strictly to Shariah principles, honours the Sunnah, and reaches those most in need.
Serving Communities with Integrity and Compassion
Each year, SANZAF oversees the Qurbani process with the utmost diligence and care, upholding both the Islamic rulings and the ethical standards outlined by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). From animal selection to slaughter and distribution, every step is managed in line with the values of sincerity, respect, and social justice.
Our mission is twofold:
✅ To facilitate your religious obligation with integrity.
✅ To ensure that the meat reaches under-resourced communities across South Africa and the wider Southern African region.
Shariah Principles of Qurbani
To maintain the sacredness of the act, SANZAF strictly upholds the following Shariah guidelines:
- Timing
Qurbani must be performed between the 10th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar.
- Animal Eligibility
Permissible animals include goats, sheep, cows, buffalo, and camels.
Each animal must be:
- Of eligible age:
- Sheep/goats: 1 year
- Cattle: 2 years
- Camels: 5 years
- Healthy and free from defects (not blind, lame, or extremely thin).
- Slaughter Procedure
- A sharp knife must swiftly sever the windpipe, gullet, and both jugular veins.
- The animal should not witness the sharpening of the knife or the slaughter of another animal.
- The phrase “Bismillahi Allahu Akbar” must be recited during the act.
- The animal should face the Qiblah, and dismemberment must only begin once the animal has completely died.
- Distribution of Meat
- At least one-third of the meat must be distributed to the poor and needy.
- The rest may be retained for personal or family use.
- Intention (Niyyah)
The Qurbani must be performed with a clear and sincere intention as an act of worship.
- Compassion and Care
The entire process must be carried out with gentleness and mercy. Any form of abuse, neglect, or cruelty is strictly prohibited.
- Following the Sunnah
All practices are executed in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Giving that Keeps Giving – Masjid Waqf Contribution
In addition to the immediate impact of food distribution, R15 from every Qurbani share is contributed towards SANZAF’s Masjid Waqf Fund. In 2024, this fund enabled financial support for two Masājid in South Africa, extending the legacy of your Qurbani into perpetual benefit for communities.
